Lotsa Lesson Plans - BALLOONS

FINGER PAINT BALLOONS
Glue five lids (baby food lids) open ends up, in a semicircle on a piece of heavy cardboard and fill each cap with a different color of tempera paint. Have each child in turn dip all five fingers of one hand into the paint in the lids and then press them on a sheet of white construction paper to make prints. When the paint has dried, let the children draw lines down from their fingerprints, turning them into balloons with strings.

BALLOON BLOWUP
Here’s an action poem that will have youngsters bursting with excitement. As students recite the last line, direct them to clap their hands when they say, “POP!”

I had a small balloon
That I blew and blew and blew.
It got so big and round.
It grew and grew and grew!
I threw it in the air
And wouldn’t let it drop.
But it fell and hit the ground
And suddenly went POP!

BALLOON ACTIVITIES
Submitted by Betsy
Balloon Fishing
Partially blow up ten small balloons. Place them in a dishpan full of water.
Set the pan on the floor and let the children take turns fishing for balloon fish with a wire food strainer. Help each child count his or her catch before putting the fish back in the pan.

Balloon People
Cut a heart shape out of cardboard or fun foam. Slip the knot of the balloon into the tip into the slit of the heart. The heart is the shoes of the person- colour the shoes and draw a face on the balloon with a permanent marker or use sticker shapes

Bat the Balloon!
Gross Motor-Hang balloon from ceiling and hit with hand or foam bat

I'm a Balloon!
Movement-pretend to be a balloon-inflating and popping, inflating and flying around after when air is let out, etc.

Base Balloon
Blow up a fat long balloon and a small round one. The children use the long balloon as a bat and the smaller one as a ball. This game is REALLY fun and can be safely played indoors on a rainy day!

My Balloon
Here I have a new balloon
Help me while I blow:
Small at first, then bigger
Watch it grow and grow.
Do you think it is big enough?
Maybe I should stop;
For if I give another blow,
My balloon will surely POP!

My Red Balloon
