SCIENCE ACTIVITY
FROG SKIN
Tell the children that some kinds of frogs change their skin from light to
dark green, depending on where they are. Ex. If a frog sat on a white rock,
would the skin be light or dark green? answer: light green
Ask children other questions like, if a frog sits on a leaf what shade of
green would he be? etc.....
Extension: Go to a paint store and pick up a paint chip card for the color
green. Cut out the individual color chips and mount them on index cards. Let
the children arrange the colors from light to dark.

Stuffed Frogs
Cut two frogs from construction paper.  Children can draw on features.
Staple
around the frog leaving an open space.  Children can stuff them with cotton
and staple the opening closed.

Title: FROG  ACTIVITIES
Following cross-curricular ideas submitted by Peg
Five Tadpole Flannel Board
Five little tadpoles swimming near the shore.
The first one said, "Let's swim some more."
The second one said, "Let's rest awhile."
The third one said, "Swimming makes me smile."
The fourth one said, "My legs are growing long."
The fifth one said, "I'm getting very strong."
Five little tadpoles will soon be frogs.
They'll jump from the water and sit on logs.
Math:
 Sequence the above story
Science:
Observe tadpole growth. Most bait shops have tadpoles. Or scoop water from lake, pond, fountain, or muddy puddle and you will usually catch some. Put in glass bowl. Observe and graph.
Fine Motor:
Cut large lily pad shapes out of construction or butcher paper. Put small dab of green on shape and let children pretend fingers are frogs hopping from here to there as they spread the paint.
Art:
Make a Big Mouth Frog. Need paper plate, 2 cotton balls, and 2 small black circles, red tongue and 4 green strips for legs cut from construction paper. Fold paper plate in half. Glue cotton balls on top. Add black circles to cotton balls to make eyes. Glue red tongue to inside of folded plate. Glue 4 legs to bottom of plate.
Snack:
 Lily Pad Cookies
Round cookies or crackers, Green icing
Let each child spread icing on cracker

Title: Frogs (flannel board activity)
Following submitted by Shelley
5 little frogs sat on the shore, one went for a swim and then there were 4.
4 little frogs looked out to sea, one went swimming and then there were 3.
3 little frogs said, "What can we do?" 1 jumped in the water then there were 2.
2 little frogs sat in the sun, this one swam and then there was one.
1 little frog said, "This is no fun." so he dove in the water and then there were none.

Some activities to go with this:
1) Feed the frog:  Draw a large frog on a poster board.  Cut out the mouth and have the children throw bean bags through the frogs mouth.
2)  Frog fishing:  Use a magnetic fishing rod to catch precut frog shapes with an attached magnet.  Add letters, numbers, shapes, etc. to make this game more challenging.
3)  Have the children paint precut frog shapes.  After they have dried add a popsicle stick to create a puppet
4)  Bring out the bells at circle time and use to this song. Adjust your bell playing volume soft, loud, etc.
5 little froggies sitting on a well,
1 peeked in and down he fell.
Froggies jumped high, froggies jumped low
Froggies jumped everywhere, to and fro!

5 Green and Speckled Frogs - Must be unzipped first. Print pond scene on legal size paper. Print and cut out frogs. Using Velcro attach frogs to log and pond. Children move frogs from log to pond as they sing song and count down.
