Lotsa Lesson Plans - GRANDPARENT'S DAY

FUN STUFF
On the last day of every month, invite grandparents for lunch! Have each
student create a snazzy invitation to invite her grandparent or another
special senior to lunch with the class. Give each child a programmed
invitation have her use glitter pens, stamp pads, and stickers to decorate
it. Encourage grandparents who can't make it one month to come the next!

ACTIVITY
Fun Apron
Need:
adult sized Craft apron fabric paints children!
Contributed by:
Meghan Norcross
Get a craft apron at your local craft store. Paint the child's hands (one at a time) with craft paint. Put the hand prints on the
apron anywhere you like. More than one set looks great if you have two or more kids in the family or group. Then write with permanent marker or fabric paint, "Helping hands for _______(Mom, Dad, Grandma...)" or "_____'s helping hands". If you are feeling courageous, you can get fun fabric and cut out items and attach them using Heat-n-bond (easy!!) and spruce up the apron. Outline each item with fabric paint for long lasting results! I did these last year for father's day, I used fabric with burgers, hot dogs, corn-on-the-cob, mustard, watermelon, etc. They were a huge hit!!

CRAFT
Spring Pots
Need:
clay pots
tempera paint
clear varnish
plant dirt
let your kids paint clay pots and then plant plants in them.
I used tempera paint and then we sprayed them with a clear varnish. The next day we took a trip to the nursery and I let my daughter pick out plant to plant in her pots. She now feels like she has been part of landscaping the yard. We even gave a few away as easter gifts.

Hand print/picture
Need:
gift present
We are in the military and our neighbors have moved to another base, our two year olds played together all the time. A few weeks before they left we took a picture of the kids sitting together. We had each child put their hand prints on a 5 x 7 piece of construction paper, cut the picture out to fit and placed it in the middle. Then over each hand print we printed the child's name. Under the picture we put the base and state. Now they have a special momento to remeber each other by plus it is something
that they made together. This could also be so.umething that kids could do for their parents, aunts, uncles or especially grandparents.

Rock Paperweight
Need:
Large rounded rock tissue paper squares (various colors) wax paper diluted
glue paintbrush

Spread a sheet of wax paper on top of the workspace. Lay a square of the tissue paper on the rock and paint over it with the diluted glue. Continue painting and placing until the rock is completely covered.
Allow the glue to dry.

Wheelbarrow Planter
Need:
Laundry detergent scoop 2 plastic milk jug lids 6" length of ribbon potting soil flower seeds (seeds) craft glue water
Added: 05/16/98 Glue a milk jug lid to each side of the scoop to form the "wheels". Allow the glue to dry. Tie the ribbon to the handle of the scoop.
Fill the scoop with potting soil, and plant the seeds. Sprinkle the soil with a few drops of water. You can have the child make these planters as gifts.
Enjoy!
